Chapter 5 - Chapter 5. CUBE (3)

I couldn't sleep more as I suddenly felt a piercing stare staring right at me. As I opened my eyes, I titled my head to face my staring seat mate. It was a youthful face staring right at me dazedly. A look of fascination and something I couldn't pin on in his tantalising reddish eyes.

I continued to look at the boy beside me until he suddenly snapped out. His eyes coincidentally landing straight through mine. Shock and realisation evident in his eyes as he saw me awake.

"What are you looking at?"

"Ah! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

The boy beside me immediately blushed after apologizing. My attention being drawn to the way the boy bit on his lip. Seductive yet... innocent action from a boy.

...As far as I've known. In all of the characters I've made. There was no one with the boy's appearance. All of the characters I've made with a seductive and innocent air around them were women. And the boy definitely doesn't looked like an extra or a background character at all. I wouldn't made a character with his appearance and not make him a side character or even a love interest. And NO extra would look like that.

A gnawing feeling came to me as the thought of a mysterious character suddenly popping out into my creation.

When I was about to ask the boy or my seat mate's name. The instructor suddenly appeared with a loud voice.

*

(Bihyung, what is he thinking?)

I looked straight towards the direction where our instructor introduced his self and boast his rank while masking at the students admiring gazes. I ignored it all, as I already knew what was about to happen and be said. Focusing more on the reply I got from this world's 'man in power'.

• He's suspicious of you. He thinks you're not an extra OR a character he made. •

I furrowed my brows as I remembered my every actions before or beside Kim Hajin. Looking for any detail that could pinpoint on why the writer suddenly had those thoughts.

(He shouldn't be suspicious of me that easily. If this goes on then my next plans wouldn't have a chance to happen at all!)

• Calm down, I'll let you know if he has any change of thoughts or something. •

(Thanks.)

I sighed in relief to know that this 'alien' buddy of mine actually has more uses and help towards our plans in changing this story... a little. You know, spicing things up a little. Now that I think about it, I have some fanon ships that I want to sail... maybe I could make it happen.

Burying those thoughts away, I focused on the current small that may become a big problem beside me.

(...What gave it out?)

• Your appearance. •

Yu Aerum stared, dumbfounded at the reply he got from his alien buddy. Glancing at the supposedly bored man beside him, who's been keeping an eye on him for quite a while now. His eyes connecting immediately to those flickering dark eyes that the writer beside him owned.

With that, Kim Soohyuk. Our smug and supposedly instructor announced.

"Now get ready. What's scheduled for today won't take long. The first task is 'main weapon selection'."

I looked away at our eye contact and started walking along with the other students following the instructor. Unconsciously avoiding the writer that also followed.

(...Can I tell him that we're the same? That I was just dragged here because of you?)

• Can you bare his God Complex? •

(Wouldn't I eventually have to handle it for a while as his future friend?)

*

"Any weapon you can think of should be here."

Main weapon was exactly what it sounded like. High ranking Heroes called their weapons 'treasured weapons,' while weapons above [Unique] grade were given the title 'armament.'

But I didn't know what my main weapon was. I knew nothing about Chundong's past.

"Stand in front of the weapon you want. We'll supply you with the training weapons. But don't look down on them just because they're training weapon. Their market price is 5 million won."

There were all sorts of weapons, more so than I could have ever imagined.

Sword, spear, saber, dagger, rapier, halberd, greatsword, zweihander, bow, gun, whip, gauntlet, etc... The 100 students of Veritas class stood in front of the weapon they wanted.

"Choose carefully. Once you pick your main weapon, you won't be able to change it for at least 6 months."

Sword and spear were obviously the most popular choice. Kim Suho and Shin Jonghak stood in front of a sword and a spear respectively. 70 out of 100 chose the sword, spear, or saber, the so-called Holy Trinity of weapons. On the other hand, Yoo Yeonha chose the whip, Chae Nayun chose the bow, and Rachel chose the rapier.

However, I simply stood in a daze.

"Kim Chundong, Yu Aerum, why are you two standing still?" Kim Soohyuk asked.

I simply stared blankly at the weapon that no one gave a damn about.

The weapon of choice in the modern world, one that didn't require an instruction manual and one that anyone could use with a click. But in this world, this weapon was the weakest lump of metal, a weapon avoided by every Hero. Most likely, it was only here for the sake of having all kinds of weapons be here.

But this was the only choice I had.

I couldn't use any close ranged weapons. Even if Chundong was talented in one, I didn't want to participate in close ranged combat where blood splattered everywhere.

"Kim Chundong. Yu Aerum."

I glanced at the still person 3 feet away from me that was also unfortunately coldly called out by the instructor. Again, coincidentally meeting the eyes of my now seatmate. His eyes staring right directly at me, as if waiting for my decision in anticipation.

"You two..."

This time the instructor's voice fell lower than before, and other students' gazes fell on the both of us. Shin Jonghak and Kim Suho were among them.

I didn't like being the center of attention and my seatmate also looked uncomfortable like me.

Turning my attention from him, I quickly walked up to the weapon of my choice. Yu Aerum, walking by my side as he picked up the weapon beside mine.

I could feel the weight of the metal in my hand as the smell of rust tickled my nose.

More eyes fell on the both of us.

I glanced at the boy beside me, looking at the weapon in his grip. Amusement and curiosity bubbling up inside my head as I recognized his main weapon.

A weapon that was difficult to master and use. Which many would think of as useless without any aid of gifts. Something that was seen as only a tool for gardening or farming until a telltale of a master of death or reaper of souls used it as a weapon made it popular. A weapon that many heroes also avoided as they were now seen by most as only used by 'villains' or people with gifts that connected with death and curses.

"Seems like both of us chose something rare, Hajin-ssi."

I looked at the boy that whispered my true name in shock and wariness.

Looking back with an almost unnoticeable smirk on my face as I gripped tightly at the cold metallic gun on my hand when he leaned on the glinting scythe in his.

"...indeed."
