Chapter 6 - Words

~

People are so quick to lay blame. Barely ever ask for reasons for someone's actions, and when they do, they hardly listen, too obsessed with having a target for the hatred they carry in their own chests, the desire to hurt others, to cause chaos and pain. Heck, they even prefer to twist other people's words in order to make them into such a target. They do not even care about the actual truth, the only desire they have is dumping their own disturbed mind onto the victim. They should not even be allowed into public spaces...

~

And yet, funnily enough, there will always be others who back them up. And more often then not, they back them up not because they think exactly the same. They will back them up just because they know them and think there is some sort of connection between them. Out of a twisted sense of duty. A twisted sense of belonging. A twisted fear of being pushed away if they disagree. Herd instincts more primitive than most animals. It will even make them lie if necessary, with no regard for the one who is falling victim to their behavior. All just to maintain the illusion of belonging. Because they are incapable of thinking that maybe there can be a different, better place to belong. Because the one they are defending made them believe that if they switch sides, they will be in the same minority that becomes the victim.

~

They do not think about the consequences it has for he victim either. How everything they do will cling to the victim's mind, traumatize them, make them falsely judge anyone with but a small similarity to the one who hurt them. They never think about how just one irresponsible action can influence dozens of relationships and in consequence - people's lives. No, they do not care. All they want is to pour their hatred and twisted beliefs into the world.

~

They do not know what it is like to have their minds twisted either... How their words can get stuck in the victim's head and drive out other, more important thoughts, destroy first the focus and then the entire functionality. Overreacting? I do not think so. If people think the are always in control of their own brain, they are, sadly, delusional. If that would be the case, suicide would not be such an enormous problem everywhere. Trying to blame someone else will never give them peace. Neither will making up lies to cover up their mistakes. Conscience knows no mercy. It is pure, and it is cruel.

~

Even though we are not able to fight the despair they have given us, nor erase the scars they left, there is one thing we can do: not become like them. For the sake of the people who didn't write us off despite how crippled we are.

~

But nothing is over until the victim says that it's over.
