Jay tensed as he realized it was already too late.
At this point, even Elaris understood that the two Fiends were responsible for the strange barrier and the abnormal behavior of the Aberrants.
It became clear that they had been biding their time, waiting for the right moment to make their move. And what better time than when the Corin was wounded and the Sentinel had drained himself?
"Tch... Tch... That's an interesting FRAME you've got, Sentinel."
The ten-foot-tall Fiend said with a scornful look. His bulky, muscular body was covered in dark full-body armor, while his ashen-red skin was visible through the gaps.
He tightened the leash in his hand and sneered. "Be a good sport and share its Schema, or I'll have my War Pet here take a bite out of you."
At the other end of the leash stood an eight-foot humanoid creature. Its chalk-black hardened skin was covered in cracks that resembled molten fissures. A heavy metal collar was fastened around its neck.
The creature remained on all fours, releasing low growls as it stared at Elaris and Corin with hatred. It looked ready to pounce at any moment and tear them apart.
Elaris' expression turned serious as he evaluated the War Asura and the two Fiends.
War Asuras were a branching bloodline of the Fiend Races and among the most feared war beasts under their command. Members of the top Fiend clans often raised and used them as war pets, but doing so required specialised control artifacts.
Without such restraints, a War Asura could easily turn on its master and unleash its ferocity on friend and foe alike. The fact that these two Fiends had one under their control spoke volumes about the status of the two Fiends before him.
His gaze shifted to their spiraling fiery horns, carefully studying the grooves etched into them to estimate their strength.
As a second-generation Sentinel whose family line had produced Sentinels for generations, he had grown up learning a great deal about the Fiends.
The two before him possessed twenty-one and a half grooves on their horns, indicating that they had reached the peak of Tier-7 and were only a step away from Tier-8. As for the horns themselves, their length relative to the body served as an indicator of bloodline purity.
"You want my FRAME Schema? With bloodline concentrations like yours, you two must come from one of the top clans of your race. I'm sure your people have access to similarly powerful FRAMES."
He deliberately kept the conversation going, hoping to buy time and recover from his earlier usage.
This time, the other Fiend spoke. He stood nine feet tall and was noticeably less muscular than the one holding the leash.
He said, raising a brow, "Oh? You're surprisingly well-informed for a Sentinel Trainee. You must belong to one of the Five Senate Families."
A faint smirk appeared on his face.
"Good thing we weakened you first. Otherwise, dealing with you would have been troublesome."
The Fiend holding the leash scoffed bared his tusk-like teeth and grunted.
"Grh… Krag'Thul, I would've taken him down even without all this nonsense. We just wasted time sneaking around."
Krag'Thul responded with an eerie smile, his eyes shifting toward Corin.
"We have to be patient with our prey, Ghor'Mazur. Besides, this Sentinel isn't the only interesting one here."
