Emery had barely stepped back into Neo Terra Palace before his thoughts were already turning toward his private chambers. Half-formed plans for seclusion were already taking shape in his mind, along with thoughts of the two scaled scriptures he had just acquired and the insights they might contain.
He had barely made it three steps down the corridor when Klea intercepted him.
"No."
She planted herself directly in his path, arms crossed firmly over her chest.
"Not today. Today, you're spending time with your daughter."
Emery opened his mouth to protest. His mind was still filled with thoughts of cultivation, the Superior Gene Elixir, the clone technique, and everything he needed to accomplish before the coming mission.
Then he noticed the small figure peeking out from behind Klea's skirt.
"Daddy."
The moment he heard that tiny voice, every thought of seclusion disappeared.
