"We're leaving," Brown announced, his low, grave voice cutting through the heavy silence of the foyer as he turned on his heel and followed Jillyanna out through the double doors.
Valkyrie stood leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his tactical vest, his sharp eyes fixed entirely on Brown's broad back. "Be extra careful out there," Valkyrie called out softly.
Brown didn't pause, didn't answer, and didn't even bother turning his head to acknowledge the man standing in the doorway. He simply kept his steady pace toward the driveway.
Savannah stepped past Valkyrie, pausing for a split second to throw him a pointed, unamused look. "Stop teasing him," she commented, her voice dropping into a low, firm murmur so Jillyanna wouldn't hear from down the steps. "You know exactly how he feels about you. If you can't bring yourself to respond to those feelings, Valkyrie, it's better if you just tell him the honest, cold truth instead of letting him hang."
