Chapter 2 - Lost

She found herself sinking in a sea that was cold, wet and dark. It tickled her eyeballs.

Her heart screamed but she kept her mouth shut.

Focus!

Inside the darkness seemed to be something solid, she used it as her foot hold to climb higher until she had finally resurfaced.

Mud?

In a field of mud, it was raining so heavily the rain drops created sunken holes the size of donuts. A clear flat road bordered by forests surrounded her, she could make out the limbs of other people-no, corpses, sinking into the mud and realized what she was standing on must also be...

She lifted her face up to the sky, and let the rain rinse her muddied eyes and face.

A small relief in her newfound hell.

Where was she? How did she get here?

The mound she stood on began to sink again, she knew she couldn't afford to relax quite yet.

She took off her extra layers of clothing and threw it out onto the surface of the mud, one layer a bit farther than the other before diving forward. She quickly flopped across her clothes all the way to the outer edge of the forest where she finally managed to find sturdy footing. She propped herself up against a tree as she took in her surroundings once more with a sigh.

She felt like a nearly drowned dog, her body felt so heavy, stiff and cold, her eyelids fluttered close.

A streak of lightning lit up the dark sky and was shortly followed by the roar of thunder, suddenly Song Anna's eyebrows knitted together as a string of memories that didn't belong to her flooded her memory.

These memories seemed to belong to a person that looked identical to her.

Song Anna, the concubine born daughter of the fourth prince. She spent her youth holed up inside her residence, learning how to play instruments and composing poetry, during the vie for the throne, the second prince secured the seat of emperor.

The fourth prince had done the second prince a great wrong in their youth, knowing well of the emperor's vicious nature, had all his wives and children flee the capital only to get ambushed on their way out. .

Here, everyone met their end.

She could feel the ache of something in her chest. That's right, she had gotten shot by an arrow through the carriage.

The martial artists and assassins in this world were on another level. She feared that even with her alley cat street cred she'd pose no real threat.

Paranoid that those responsible were still around, Song Anna kept low to the ground. She crawled away further into the forest.

She felt as if she was having a nightmare, she was in a completely different world and everything felt foreign to her. The only information she had of this world was from this body's memories.

Parents were dead. This body was only fourteen... Her future didn't seem too bright. Revenge? She wasn't stupid enough to desire going up against someone that wasn't her match. Both she and her look-alike were unlucky people. The only justice she could give them was living a peaceful life.

If she wasn't so paranoid of the possibility that the assassins were still lurking about and if the fields weren't already flooding from the rainwater she probably would have risked fishing out some valuables that she could sell, but even that would have been risky, if the items she sold was traced back to her she wouldn't be able to deny her identity when questioned by authorities.

Where to go? What to do?

Upon entering the forest, she ran aimlessly only to trip over a rock and slide down the hill into a shallow puddle of mud.

"Ugh." Song Anna clutched her chest. Of course, her wounds hadn't healed. Was she brought to this world just to die again? The hopelessness of her situation weighed on her mind and with her diminished desire to live, suddenly the wound from the arrow began to cripple her.
