Getting to the Castle-like building did not take long, despite being on the outer side of the city and fairly far from it, each one of them only took roughly a minute to get to their destination leaving the man who came to get them in their dust.
After walking into the building they were escorted to a room with a giant table with papers thrown around it and armored soldiers lined up waiting for orders. Recktor, still sitting down at the head of the table had a grave expression on his face waiting for them to arrive, it would seem he had some severe matters to address.
After the door closed he stood up and said in a deep voice "We just had our scout return not 20 minutes ago from his trip north. Your group was right, we found demons, and they are not alone. It seemed they not only is there three of them on their way, they are also driving a massive wave of monsters toward us. Though their actions are a bit strange like the beasts are running away from them and coming to us for help. If what you said was true and you could deal with them, then we need your help."
With a stern voice, Rak asked "How big of a monster horde are we talking?"
From the corner of the room behind Recktor a man spoke up, sweating from head to toe and covered by a faded greenish poncho he said between breaths "At the least, I saw about 700 maybe 800 or even a thousand, after I witnessed them coming my way, I turned and rode back to town as fast as I could. We have maybe an hour tops before the first part of the monsters get here. Maybe less."
"How many of the beasts can your people deal with and for how long?" Rak once again questioned.
"We have never seen a beast horde this large, we have ever dealt with about 100 or maybe 150 starving ones at most. We cannot handle over a thousand beasts with what men I have here. I fear we must evacuate the city as fast as possible and hold on till we can not hold any longer. I think half the city will be destroyed by the beasts alone, and if what you say is true, the demons will kill us if the beasts don't. I may think of myself as one of the strongest men in this town, but even I can not hold back what is before us." Recktor explained.
"If your men can help distract the demons for us for a short while we should be able to clean this mess up. Demons apart, the monsters are a non-issue, a thousand beasts or a million does not make a difference to us. We can deal with the demons afterward, despite their strength and durability, they are still on the slow side. All you have to do is draw their attention." Rak gave his plan.
"Are you sure you can take them down?" was all Recktor asked with a concerned face
With but a turn to the door Rak opened it and before he walked out left one last remark "I'm not known by Yama for nothing."
Following in Rak's footsteps, the rest of his team followed shortly after leaving Recktor with a questionable look, not knowing what he said was supposed to imply.
Walking down the hallways of the castle to the exit, Anubis shuffled on Larry's shoulder trying to speak up to say something. "Again mortal you use that name. Why do you take on such a name that is the same as us gods?" he asked with a displeased tone.
Rak, turning to look at the tiny sized god spoke decisively "Unlike those born with the power to a name like you, I earned it, and as far as I know for the last 200 years, I have been a much better god of death." while flashing a dark smile.
Among the hustle of troops heading back and forth moving supplies on the top of the wall circling Fort Bastion six people suddenly appeared without a sound. Looking forward to the plain from where they came from just a day prior the sun had just begun to shine from the west spreading a huge shadow over the land as it grew in the sky. Normal people could not see what was in store for them but Rak and his group could.
At the edge of their sight, a cloud of dust was raised with monsters in a huge group that was barreling their way. From what they could see the number of monsters coming their way was just as discussed, almost a thousand of them were on their way to the wall ready to fight anything in their way.
After watching the dust cloud getting closer for a short while Rak finally gave out his order. "Let's show these people what it means to be a hero." he said while falling off the high wall.
