He slowly stood up from his desk and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the hidden cove below.
Down at the docks, oblivious workers continued hoisting massive steel shipping containers onto a cargo vessel as though it were any other ordinary day. Several heavily armed private mercenaries strolled along the piers on routine patrol.
On the surface, everything appeared completely normal. Yet, for the first time since taking command of the facility, Hector Vaughn felt a chill run down his spine.
"How many shipments are currently stored on this island?" Hector Vaughn suddenly demanded.
The subordinate immediately recited the inventory from memory.
"Three, Sir. One shipment is scheduled to depart tomorrow night. The second shipment is held in storage awaiting the next transport vessel. And..." The subordinate hesitated briefly. "...the third shipment arrived just yesterday."
