-As I said before, my name is Mei. I was orphaned at age 3 during an earth tremor that took almost my whole village. I was found wailing in the middle of a street while everyone was crushed to death under the rubble. The rescue organizations took me and many other small kids like me and sent us far from our country that was poor because leaving us there was not an option. No one knew my family name so I have no family name. I grew up on a government institution and while it was hard, it was not brutal. I enlisted as a soldier as soon as I hit 16 years and did administrative work until one day my base suffered an attack and I was hurt badly enough that I would have died.
-How bad was it?-he interrupted
-Initially, both legs, one arm and my right eye. Afterwards, most of my chest and guts were gone too as the damage was massive. However at the time, my people were testing a new technology that allowed maimed people like me to have parts replaced and some added even. I was given the choice to allow it or to be put out of my misery and I chose to live, of course.
Lord Shen was taken aback. Wounds like she described were fatal in his world unless you reached a cultivation higher than where he was currently. It had taken a lot of his effort and performing the Soul Bonding technique to bring her back and repair the damage done to her heart and lungs from the attack.
-Since I was a soldier, my new enhacements were military grade and kept getting better and better with time. I recovered vision in my lost eye when another advance was made about 15 years ago-she smiled at the memory of when she became a willing guinea pig for the nanobots tech- That one hurt like a bitch but was well worth the pain...Anyway. Others like me kept popping and eventually we became the Sentinel force and even some people without lost parts but only enhacements could pass the tests. We could do seriously dangerous things no one else could, like the time my unit went to Mars to help with a cave in on Mariner Town.
-What is Mars?-
-Another planet. In my world, the Earth is not the only planet were people have settled- That question made Mei realize she had gone off track- Im sure my world and yours are quite different and we will have plenty of questions about that for each other...-He nodded. Most of what she said was a foreign concept to him.
-How did you die if you were Sentinel Prime and were so strong?
The faint smile in Mei's face became sad and bitter.
-Someone really wanted to become the architect of the end of the world and used a version of the technique that recovered my eye to develop and spread a disease that changed people into undead beasts capable of eating and tearing other people to shreds. We called this event the Outbreak and it killed 10 billion people in a matter of days. I was off planet at the time and could not reach Earth in time to do something to stop it but a large group of survivors managed to resist long enough and call for help to get out. I led the team in charge of helping them to get off planet and into safety but I did not make it alive. They should be now in the Celestes base and...-she closed her eyes and sighed. Without doubt, her part in the human history in that world had ended. She could only hope that what the being said about fixing realities held true and her sacrifice meant humankind gained a chance to make the corrections needed to go on.
It felt weird but she needed to let go of all that and start over in a new reality.
