Chapter 1 - THE COTTAGE

There's an old abandoned cottage, with over grown gardens that looks a bit worn. with windows missing and slate slivering, sliding slowly from the roof top. At the end of long winding dirt track though the woods. On first sight it would make everyone's hair stand up on their spines in the dead of night, while the trees whistle, the owls hooting and the big old hand clock tick, tocking in the distance.

From generation, to generation stories has been told that the old lady who once, used to live there has been seen stalking the grounds week, after week when she first disappeared without a trace. She was a solitary soul who lived of the land; she lived a very old fashioned life by not believing in technology. She would be sort tempered, not wanting guests, a sort of little old lady how was unsociable.

People from the next village thought she was not alone, that she was married; he was a social, gentle man, who likes to brink on a lonely, sad, Saturday's games night. Then one bay he was no more, no appearances. They searched, high and low, but no luck. Rumours, stories travelled for miles that she had gotten fed up of his sad ways, so she had him bone in. No one would dare to go and confront her not even the hardest, most powerful, muscular man on earth who runs the local pub at the other end of the village. Which is, well was his brother.

When travellers pass by, and stop at the pub for a rest and refreshments, they can see through the small round skylight, at the dwelling in the distance, there's a glimpse of a chimney pumping, hooting, and puffing out a grey, dusk cloud. They talk about investigating but there and then, there was a deadly silence, then there are warnings shouting, rummaging round the room saying NEVER GO NEAR as bad thing have happened by mysterious strange happenings occur.

Hearing this, two children of the family that was passing by, decided that they will go and investigate it further as they didn't believe, thought it was a load of nonsense, so the children told their parents that they were going out for a walk nearby. They were told not to go far as they would shortly be leaving. Quietly, but a bit timidly the two children slowly, steadily scampered in to the woods along the winding long dirt track until they came in sight of the old abandoned cottage.

Suddenly there was a glow from the window. The children crept closer, closer until they could touch the front door as they were just about to turn the door handle, the door opened by its self which made them jump, jerkily back in fright. A worming glow came closer and closer and in the light stood a frail old lady looking out at them "come here," she called out to them but the children were frozen in fright.

The old lady of the house walked up to them and asked them to come in out of the cold, slowly the children followed her step after step as if something was bragging them in, they jumped as she closed the door behind them, all they could hear was the noise eeerrrhhhh as it closed. "Sit down my dears you must be frozen", as they shivered and trembled.

Offering them some hot coco and a blanket that looked grubby, faded, to warm then up. The coco tasted like hot melted gravel. They slivered like worms down into the back of the sofa which had stains from allsorts and the coloured, patterns where faded. Soon afterwards the children fell asleep as if they were terrified to keep their eyes open any longer. The light flickered out and the old lady disappeared.

Meanwhile down at the local pub the parents had gotten concerned and agitated, so they began to search and call out for their children to no advail, the search party was eventually formed, they combed the surroundings but no one dared go near the old cottage. After that spooky, ghostly night the search was called off and would resume at first light.

Hours passed.

When the bright, beaming beach ball shaped sun was slowly, slivering up to the highest point. The screaming search party resumed, but in the meantime in that old spooky cottage the children where slivering out from those old blankets, stretching up to the sky and yarning as they have risen from there slumber. They suddenly glance down to find what they were laid on throughout the night, which looked an utter mess with ashes, dust, and rotten food all over the floor.

They then stared at the sofa that they were on, that was nothing than just the rusty metal frame and the pinging, ponging springs. They slowly twisted their hips to look at their half empty mugs which once held hot coco, which now was full of parts of the rotten roof and dead slimy insects that lay in a slushy liquid. It smelled like a musky old baby's nappy. They then call out for the old lady but get no reply.

All alone, the house felt empty and cold, not like the night before, now instead of a full on running house, it transformed into a quaint little old cottage. It was only just able to stand up around them as it creaked, and trembled underneath their feet as gushes of frosty, bitter air came rushing through the place due to huge, gaping holes that were missing in parts of the back walls and roof. So it seems like they had been in a mirage.

While their eyes were searching the house they though to each other "what the…". They decide to run out back into the normal, life living people world, while they run out the front gates they run straight in the track of the search party.

Everyone was muttering how glad they were to see each other, the children speck about the happenings in the cottage all in full detail, as they don't want to miss anything out. The owner of the pub quickly, stepped in and told the two frightened children that they must of imagined it all up, like they were too tiered, or they had banged their heads to see things like that. As the old little lady who lived their year's ago vanished for no one to see again.

So the cottage was left all there to rack and ruin all by its self. As they steadily walk away one step after another, in a quick pace as they can so nothing else will happen to them all, the children all glance back and as they do, they see a mid-air glow beep in side stood the old lady hovering over the cottage.

They all scream as one "look, look she's there!," everyone looks to no amusement that they still can't see anything. So in the end, they were told they must have breamed it or did they...…
