Chapter 2 - Caged

Rens mind wandered through his memories as he slipped into unconsciousness. All the people he loved, his mother and father had already passed he only had one older brother, his girlfriend his closest and best friends. All their faces flashed past him as the darkness crept into his vision, the pain wouldn't let him stay conscious any longer.

time flowed on waiting for no man. Ren's eyes flew open as he sat up in a jolt, or tried to he realised he wasn't able to move, his whole body felt sore and taxed. thankfully no pain remained just soreness. it felt like he hadn't moved for days maybe weeks. his muscles refusing to move. slowly his senses started coming back. it was pitch black around him yet he could see as clear as day. he realised he was buried under a pile of rubble and he had no idea where he was nor how long it had been since he lost consciousness. trying to calm down he relaxed his body not trying to move. he went back in his memories to the events that had happened that led him here. those dark streams entering into people including him. was he the only one alive? slowly the soreness started seeping away as he started gaining strength back into his body. he tried to wiggle around to no avail.

then it hit him the smell, he could smell decaying flesh, rotten he could smell things burning the smell so unbearable he felt like throwing up yet his stomach was empty. then came the sounds millions upon millions of voices of people insects animals everything all together, he couldn't understand anything as his ears started to ring. then came the worst of everything, hunger sheer primal hunger, it felt like a black hole inside him craving for anything he could consume. reacting with out knowing he drew in a huge breath the air around him almost turning into a vacuum as he sucked in everything. his body started feeling stronger and stronger as he kept on breathing in. all his senses still overwhelming him, his head hurt, with a roar he pushed out and broke through layer upon layer of rubble pushing upward by what seemed to be by just sheer will.

finally he broke through to the surface flying into the air a few metres with momentum and then came crashing down again. he felt faint and hungrier now. the strength he felt earlier seeping away again. before he could even start to take in the world around him his vision started to turn dark again. 'not again' Ren thought to himself as he slowly collapsed on to his side, his eyes slowly shutting as he saw a deep red sky mostly covered in smoke. through that smoke he saw something with massive wings flying towards him. it was too big to be a bird, before it got any closer his eyes shut.

with no concept of the time passing by Ren had no idea how long it had been when finally he opened his eyes again. he was in a cage made of iron, the iron floor soo cold it bit into his skin. he was too weak to move away from it. the cage was covered in blood and gore from what seemed to be from animals and humans alike. pieces of flesh strewn about and frozen solid on to the bars and floor. breath by breath Ren's strength started coming back to him. he slowly became numb to the cold biting into him. slowly but surely Ren pushed himself up into a sitting position. he realised his clothes were in taters hanging thinly off his shoulders, slowly leaning back onto the frigid iron bars he start taking in his surroundings. it was damp and gloomy around him, and his cage wasn't alone there. it seemed to be a shed filed with cages and each cage had either people in them or large animals. his vision still hazy Ren wasn't able to focus on anything he could only see silhouettes within the other cages. one breath after another his strength slowly built up, his vision started to clear. he focused on the cage opposite his to see a frail old man sitting in its corner with his head drooped. the man head had barely any hair but within those loose tufts Ren could make out two protrusions. at first he didnt believe his eyes but that seemed to be horns? crude and uneven tapered towards the end. they were only a couple of inches. he moved his gaze to the next cage, in it lay what seemed like an oversized dog it was as big as a lion, giant canines jutting out from under its lips, over grown muscles deep blood red eyes. all around him there were many creature all big and grotesque to look at. there were even people who had giant bat like wings chained up in their cages with glowing collars.

suddenly the door to the warehouse opened and in walked a group of hunks, there were four of them, Their heights reaching two and a half meters, with large arms as thick as men's thighs. jet black horns protruding from their red hair. they walked right past Ren's cage without even looking at him. they proceeded on to the the cage at the end of the warehouse. it contained a beast that looked like a cat yet was larger, it looked ferocious and ready to kill anything that came near it, the men completely ignored the cats attempts to bite and scratch them and simply lifted the cage from four corners and proceeded towards the door again.

where am i? was the only question in Ren's mind as he sat there in the darkness enveloped by the cold.
